Willie Bain's Campaign Diary

Willie Bain CampaignBy Willie Bain

Thursday, 22nd October, 2009

Standing on the same street I played on as a child, it made me very proud to officially launch my by-election campaign this week. It was a great moment to stand outside my home in front of my family, neighbours and supporters and set out my vision for the place I have grown up.

After the launch I was straight back out on the campaign trail going from door to door speaking to local people and that is what I will keep doing. As well as meeting people on the doorstep, I visit some great initiatives going on in the community and it was a privilege to spend time with staff at Good Morning Glasgow. Each day they call elderly people in the area to make sure they are doing OK - it is an excellent project and one that illustrates the community spirit here in Glasgow North East.

I'll be back with another update soon. In the meantime, read my PPC Profile here.

Willie - where do you stand on something you can actually influence at Westminster such as the Calman recommendation for fiscal autonomy for Scotland?

Or do you agree with Gordon and 'Call me Dave' that the £500,000 plus of Scottish taxpayers' money used to fund this should be lost and the report kicked into the long grass?

Willie there are a number of rumours that on the street today you met with less than vociferous support. According to one blog on the campaign, you and your English minders were met with indifference. Is it also true that local activists are less than pleased, are not rushing to help and you have had to borrow staff from Foulkes and Frank MacAveety?

Maybe you could also comment of the impact of you gaining the support of the 'Loyal Orange Order' and how it may effect the vote in a Glasgow constituency where these sort of things do matter.

Then again you can always pretend it isn't happening.....
