Today Leicester South members selected Jon Ashworth as Labour’s candidate for the upcoming by-election. Ashworth won on the first ballot. Congratulations to Jon and commisserations to the other shortlisted candidates.

Jon is the current Head of Party Relations for Ed Miliband. Ashworth was considered the most likely candidate outside of Leicestershire to clinch the nomination, and had visited the constituency several times over the last few months.
