After seeing Jim Knight on the news this morning and Peter Hain yesterday i see Gordons back to even more spinning , this is the type of student politics i thought we had moved on from , If we carry on treating the voters as children we have no chance .
I am truly begining to despair what has happened to the leadership, I was going to watch some of confrence hoping to hear anew line , A new approch , However after hearing again that we a reduced to saying what the torys might do ( proberly the same as us ) , I am begining to get the feeling we need to lose the next election , Because our arragance and contampt for the voters from the leadership is unbeliviable .

If Labour gets destroyed in the right-wing press for spending it's time on this out-of-touch selection of student debating topics then we only have ourselves to blame. Yet again, it's not the Tories who are killing us - we're doing it to ourselves.
Anyway, how does one get an invite to these shindigs? I'd be happy to attend a number of the speeches and conferences listed, although I imagine I'd end up on News at 10 if I contributed!?
Does anyone know why Polly Toynbee gets a bit part, or for that matter Feargal Sharkey? And is it entirely appropriate to have a conference named "Never mind the bollocks"?
Alex, please help me, I'm reading the lists of conferences and talks within the Labour conference and I'm not seeing anything related directly to the people of Britain. I'm seeing a lot of side issues, a lot of minority issues and I'm seeing alot of internal Labour issues, but nothing really discussing the real issues facing today's nation. Don't get me wrong, I can see a lot of retorical questions, but we know what the answers are already. What is needed is some taxing questions where the answer is not already decided.
I'm being serious, I need help to understand this. What am I reading here? The 2009 conference or a series of meetings about random issues that bear no resemblence to what needs discussing?
I suspect it is because noone dare admit that there are major issues - it would be taken as undermining/criticising Brown and his government, the presenter and sponsor would be hammered.
Also - if anyone presenting had any idea of how to 'get back' what has been lost, don't you think maybe it wouldn't have been lost in the first place?
If the labour party had any real idea how to engage the british people they would be engaged with them already and not talking/worrying about engaging...
As regards "How should the left engage British Muslims" - what could be more misguided? if you 'philosophy' doesn't allow you to engage everyone in exactly the same way then your phlosophy is broken.
Baroness Warsi had it right on quesiton time (last year?) when she criticised labour engaing with asians and other groups through 'community leaders' instead of treading everyone with respect as individuals.
I don't agree. what you say is not practical. we need across-community leaders - i.e community leaders who can represent all sections of the community - rich poor, black white whatever.
our community leaders at present are not fit for purpose.
Perhaps Trevor McDonald could be the non-politician?
Let Griffin wilt and make a fool of himself.
These are all fringe events, but you're right.
I don't understand it either.
Welcome back by the way and hope you had a good time over there. Anthony did a fine job in your absence, a very fine job.
Will this be in the context of the United Nations Human Rights Commission declaration that the conditions for democracy must to include "transparency and accountability of government institutions"; and that we must have the right to choose our governent institutions.
Can someone please explain to me how the EU can possibly comply with these conditions.
I felt glad when Tony stood down hoping for a change but instead we got more of the same , The same spin and then the mcbride affiar , Latly we had reports of minsters attacking the cheif of the army over expenses ( the irony ).
How can we move forward ? As i said on another post bring in Kate Hoey as leader she will be able to reach out to voters on both sides .
The Lisbon treaty is certainly part of it - although I am very concerned generally about the minimal level of democracy in the EU. I have said many times that my vote at the next election will go to whoever guarantees us a vote on the Lisbon treaty - and in future to any party that will put improving our democratic processes at the forefront of their manifesto.
I strongly believe that without this no promises made by any party are worth anything at all.
Your point on who to vote for is a bit strange as all parties promised it last time , That is why i fear unless we talk to people honestly and without spin we will suffer at the election .
I had a discusion with some friends around the time of the euro elections and to my shock 2 said they would vote for the bnp as they had lost faith with labour , After a debate i managed to convince them to vote for the tories and lib dem and another said he was going to vote ukip .
I said to them however you feel about labour we must never let the real nasty party ( the bnp) to get a hold on power , My freinds have said at the next election they wont vote for labour as they think the need to remember that that they serve us and not the other way around , I am having thoughts myself , I wil countinue to try and defend the labour party but i am finding this very difficult within my own belifs
I did say I wanted a guarantee not a promise - for any political party a mere promise means little these days. Not sure how we would be sure a guarantee was enforced but I am sure there is a way. Perhaps by the potential PM saying that he would resign as PM if the vote was not given to us within 180 days of getting into power. I think I would go for that - it would be very difficult for them to wriggle out of it.
The public electing BNP MEPs says as much the publics contempt for the EU as it does about anything else.
Tell me - what nasty evilness have the BNP MEPs managed to perform so far?
We were told it would be a disaster - but it seems they are as impotent as all MEPs are... Expensive, *very* expensive, but impotent all the same.
what would you want TT if china, russia, US and once india is on the top table decide that they do not want to deal with the EU countries individually but only collectively and only thru the EU.
what would you want TT?
Carry on Chris if you want Labour to continue on the slippery slope. And for the record I have no idea who Ricki nor what you mean by a "troll". Please explain if you know.
Obviously beneath him.
If we want to change our leadership ( i think it will help ) they dont listen , all in all whats the point ?
These days it's really a networking event, although if you do have something to say they will get you up on the podium. Watch out for me.
Dunno, but there's a t*** polishing workshop on Wednesday afternoon.
I can only spot two members of the government there (both serial troughers), is conference relevent anymore?
