Ideas for electability

The Labour Party has a new leader, and renewal of the party has begun. Of course we should not abandon wholesale the policies and ideas of the last decade, but now that we find ourselves in opposition, the need for new, exciting and innovative policy ideas is especially pressing.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be asking some of our regular contributors to tell us what their “One idea for electability” is. Of course most party members have a checklist – but there’s always one idea that you believe in more than the others (and believe would be more popular than the others). It’s these one-off ideas that we’ll be focussing on.

If you could choose just one policy for the party to adopt, what would it be?

We don’t just want this debate to be limited to our regular contributors though – we need your ideas too. So if you think you have an idea for something that would make Labour more electable, more popular, and more likely to form the next government – write an article on the subject and send it to us.

Alternatively, leave an outline of your idea in the comments below. I’ll contact the people who provide the best suggestions over the next week.

And just to entice you a little bit more – everyone who makes a suggestion in the comments (or send through an idea by email) between now and midnight on Sunday will be entered into a raffle to win a copy of The British General Election of 2010.

Let’s show that the Labour movement is full of fresh, exciting ideas.
