This provides a vital piece of feedback info to the Labour Party and Leadership candidates over levels of party activity.
What perhaps needs to be done is:
a) Publish the list of CLPs that did not nominate so we can understand whether this was due to administrative failure or lack of organisation
b) Use the Community Organiser debate to look at how we can recruit them in 200+ CLP's which do not seem to be taking part in the Leadership campaign to start off a proper "50 state strategy" for Labour in the UK?
Cities of London and Westminster did not nominate following discussion in branches, EC and GC for a variety of reasons - no explicit provision in rules for supporting nominations, doesn't make any difference to who is on the ballot paper, patronising to majority of members, divisive, none of candidates is addressing underlying organisational problems to date.
Are any of the Leadership campaigns asking why so many CLP's did not nominate?
At this stage we need to find out which ones chose "not to nominate", so their members know this in future and which were the CLP's that were "unable to nominate".
At this stage it is latter group I am interested in. The party and the new Leader should address this issue of inactive CLP's early on as part of a local community organiser led "50 state strategy" for Labour in the UK so we can then focus on the marginals in the second half of Parliament.

It certainly does raise a number of questions and the implications will be interesting when people decide to vote as inferred by Peter Barnard below..

Sounds to me as if you either (i) have a CLP secretary who doesn't know his/her job, or (ii) have a CLP secretary who is somewhat neglectful in the execution of his/her duties.
The instructions issued to CLP secretaries were explicit : "CLP supporting nominations can be made at an all member meeting or a meeting of the General Committee, and the NEC recommend CLPs to call all member meetings."
Anything else had better stay off line to be honest
On nominations, far better if CLPs had been able to nominate before close of 'nominations', that would allow a meaningful contribution the process.
Similarly with Unions. I am a UNITE member - my Union is backing Ed Milliband. No one asked me. the National Political Committee appears totally unrepresentative. Now they are urging me to put Ed first... democracy??
Not sure what you mean by "a committee", David. Was that the Executive Committee or the "General Committee?" If it was the former, that sounds a bit naughty to me. If it was the latter, that is "legal", but maybe not very satisfactory.
In my CLP, we had an all-member meeting, at which all members present had a vote. No-one spoke against the principle of having a "supporting nomination" meeting nor did anyone propose that the process be abandoned.
Immediately before the leadership "supporting nomination", we had supporting nominations for the NEC candidates. A couple of people asked if it was necessary, but the overwhelming opinion was that the process (for the NEC candidates) should go ahead.
I guess we did quite well in my CLP - we had 38 members attending (about 10 per cent of the membership). It seems that Huddersfield had about the same level of attendance (they had 205 members in 2008).
Which, when you think about it, kind of throws a doubt on the accuracy of the membership's (nationwide) preference for the leadership as currently being reported by "CLP supporting nominations" - we just don't know.
It will be interesting to see the "turnout" in the election proper, when the results are announced.
is it me but the generally left wing areas are going for Ed and generally the more right areas going for David ?
but quite funny Lichfield and Aldridge going for Diane , two more right wing areas you will find difficult to match in the country !!

You are an asset to the membership of the Labour Party, Alex, and if there is such a post as Director (Communications), I propose you.
I keep plugging LL to the membership (200+ by email) in my CLP, but, as ever, it's a case of "horse, water, won't drink."
Keep pushing LL -- and the best way is to write yourself, maybe about Chester..?!
