Mr. Ostrowski may have beaten of Ffinlo Costain, Victoria MacDonald and Michele Savage to win the selection for the Parliamentary by-election but his efforts to secure a Labour victory in the European Parliament election for the Eastern Region were not promising. He was beaten by the Conservatives, the UK Independence Party and the Liberal Democrats.
Every UKIP achievement in the EU Parliament elections is described by commentators as a 'flash in the pan' from a 'fringe' group. This 'fringe' party got more votes than the Labour Party on Jun 4th, so perhaps we should now be realistic and get used to thinking of the Labour Party as an unimportant party on the fringe of mainstream politics.

I've heard that this latest Candidate is not local to Norwich or Norfolk and has been parachuted in. Apparently only 50 Labour party members turned up at the selection meeting - so no great enthusiasm there, then.

What are the chances of Ian Gibson being re-elected on an independent ticket?
