Aneurin Glyndwr - an Obama moment for Welsh Labour

Wales mosaic

By Peter Hain

I want to tell you about an exciting new Labour-supporting website I am launching with Eluned Morgan MEP and Alun Davies AM.

As you may have just seen on BBC Wales Dragon's Eye programme, AneurinGlyndwr.com promises to be a daily must-check website for anyone who wants to know what's really going on in Wales.

It is a brighter kind of blog, a rare commentary in the digital age that is not mired in the pettiness and nastiness of many other blogs in Wales and elsewhere. To prove the point, its launch includes a new You Tube video giving a familiar song a new twist. ‘Why, why, why?' penned by Eluned Morgan MEP, is light-hearted look at the choice at June's European elections. The blog is the new digital voice of Labour supporters in Wales, and 'Why, Why, Why?' certainly makes it sing.

Our aim is to build a network of progressive people who are interested in politics, but are not obsessed with it. That is the one danger of blogging, it can become the preserve of a self-appointed elite. We already have the core activists, what we need to do now is reach out and mobilise the millions of people who, although they might never go to a Labour Party meeting, will work hard to stop the Tories getting into power again.

And we're looking for contributors - we want to hear from Labour-minded people from across Wales who would like to get involved, from elected politicians to grassroots activists. Click here to register your details, and we'll be in touch.

The awful caterwauling video has been removed from the website, at last.

Everything Hain touches turns to crap.

Is it my monitor, or is the mosaic flag red, white and blue?

"not mired in the pettiness and nastiness of many other blogs..."
Most of the entries by far consist of sniping at other parties.
Very uplifting.

And, unlike most blogs, no comments. (Or if there are any, they're well hidden)

Still, there must be some mileage in that video!

That video could rival Daniel Hannan's YouTube success - though perhaps not for the same reasons.

Wonderful!

I'm speechless. Is this petty, amateuristic video the best that Labour can muster? The European election will give the people of Wales a taste of what will happen within the next 13 months, a slaughtering at the polls and another couple of generations being brought up under a right wing Conservative government.

These, like Hain's views are the politics of the past and of internal colonialism. Some Labour members' fear of what you call 'narrow nationalism' below seems to be part of a political paranoia. Some see incapable of identifying social democracy unless there's a Labour Party label on the tin!

Peter, congratulations. You have managed to out-stupid every single other person in the Labour Party by a convincing margin. The only Obama moment you've had is his "Special Olympics" moment.

Nice to see that the labour party has nothing better to do when Wales is in recession. Sorry but my vote will be going to Plaid. I will never vote for a labour party that is more tory than the tory party.

ROFL… ROFL… ROFL …… and still ROFL……………. Oh boy that hurt.

I'm beginning to see why you lot need PR consultants.

Peter Ive havent laughed so much in ages, that video is bloody fantastic.

Keep up the good work.

Unfortunately this does seem to be the way Wales is going under our misguided decision to allow devolution. Many of us in the party pointed out at the time that devolution would have a divisive impact on the UK as a whole. The demand to spread the Welsh language to the private sector will make things even worse.

Flat as a fart.

I have never seen anything so embarrassing in my life. Apart from the PRS issue - I assume that the SoS for Wales never actually saw this before giving his endorsement.

If he did, then I despair. My cat can sing better than that. Oh and the cut out images!!!

Less an Obama moment than a moment of madness. The site is self-righteous and sectarian in tone and the European election video. Oh dear! Petty, poisonous and childish! I wonder how many other Welsh labour party memmbers would, like me, wish not to be associated with either the message or the chief mesengers of this blog
Michael Sullivan @ 45 weeks and 4 days ago
This Obama messianic complex politicians have been having recently is all rather tawdry. Have you seen his recent poll ratings?
Man in the Street @ 45 weeks and 4 days ago
I'm not sure if this is really a good idea.

Yet again we are encouraging narrow nationalism in Wales when we should be encouraging a wider British unity in our support of social democracy. Having been born and raised in Cardiff I share the pride in our celtic heritage, but would not want that to create more division in the UK.

When we are seeing the damage created by our multiculturalist policies in our English cities we do not want to be encouraging separate development, cutoff by a separate language, in Wales or for that matter Scotland.

Oh. My. God.

I've just seen the first excruciating 30 seconds of the video. I hope it gets better but I can't bear to find out!

Inane lyrics, dire flat singing, ear-popping harmonies. Aaaarrrrggggghhhhhhh!

(Stand by for the writ for copyright theft from it's original writers, Les Reed, Barry Mason and Sylvan Whittingham.)

"As you may have just seen on BBC Wales Dragon's Eye programme..."

Peter, I never miss it.

I don't want to be petty or nasty Peter but I hope you've checked out your daily song with the PRS, there's a whole world of trouble right there.
